A man was arrested on charges of murder after chopping up his neighbor because he complained about smoke coming into his home, police in Nigeria said.
Lagos State Police said that they arrested 29-year-old Ibrahim Tijani, after being accused of killing Bashorun Okanla with a machete on Monday.
Tijani was denied bail after being charged with one count of murder. According to the police investigation, Okanla complained of smoke coming out of Tijani’s generator around 2:30 p.m.
Okanla confronted Tijani, saying that his apartment was filling up with smoke. Tijani became angry. He pulled a machete and chopped up Okanla.
Okanla was declared dead at the scene. Neighbors said that they were shocked to learn about the murder as Okanla and Tijani were friends.
